Losing chips

I thought I'd loosen up my play a little. It worked quite well for a while. I was sitting pretty with 2,000 chips. Then it all falls apart. I raise 300 chips with A8, someone goes all-in and I call. I lose to KQ. That leaves me with 1,100 chips. Next hand, I'm dealt QJ. I call for 100 chips, miss the flop and fold. Down to 1,000 chips. Next, I'm on BB with A7d. 2 limpers, so I go all-in. Button calls with KQ and I lose. Down to 200 chips. Next hand, I'm dealt 97o. I'm in SB, I go all-in. A 3-way pot. The flop comes 568. Great I thought, about to triple up. Unfortunately, BB has 97o too. I've 300 chips now. Next hand, I'm in the button and go all-in. BB shows 65o and wins. That's it. I'm out.

Why don't people fold to a raise. Always baffles me.

Frustration

Poker is such a frustrating game. Take this hand for example. It just goes to show how difficult it is to get people to fold hands. I'm not entirely sure why the caller might think he's ahead.

Yay!!!

I won my first MTT. The buy-in was £5 and first prize was £255. It was strange though. We got heads-up and the connection went. I managed to reconnect immediately. But, my opponent couldn't. He was eventually blinded out of the game.

Comeback

Almost had an amazing comeback. Midway through the second level, I make a rash call and I'm left with 85 chips. But I rally back to make the money. I go out in 3rd place. I was a bit unlucky in that hand too.

Damn fish

Oh well, I guess the fish get the better of me every now and again. Up to this point, I'd barely played a hand. Limped into pots every now and again, and folded every time after the flop. One would have though that my all-in bet would have alerted the player that I had an ace. The guy has 649 games under his belt, you'd have thought he'd know he was behind. I guess not. I suppose that's why he consistantly loses.

Early chip lead

Just played a game where I did so badly. I knocked 2 people out early on. After 3 or 4 hands, I had 3,000 chips. But, I think I played too loose and frittered them all away. I finished 5th. I should to continue playing my ABC poker, no matter how many chips I have.

AQ

AQ hasn't been very good to me tonight. I had a decent chip stack and called against a short stack with AQ. Came up against 33 and lost. That put me on 500 chips. Moments later, I went all-in with AQ again. Came up against QT and lost to a straight. Just lost another game with AQ. Didn't think I was up against KK, but anyway, the flush took it.

Pocket pairs

I just lost the last 2 games when being dealt pocket pairs. I seem to lost the ability to lay them down. I deem this to be bad play as I had plenty of chips at the time could have easily laid them down. In the first game, I've 2,000 chips and I'm dealt QQ. I raise up to 120 chips (3xBB) and there's 2 callers. One of the callers has 2,500 chips. The flop comes 678 rainbow. I bet 100 chips and the large stack raises to 300 chips. I put him on the straight draw or something like A8. So, I call. The turn is a blank. I bet 100 chips, he raises to 300 again and I call. River is blank too. I bet 100 chips again and large stack goes all-in and I call. I lose. Large had flopped a straight.

Next game, I've 1,300 chips and dealt JJ UTG. I raise to 150 chips (3xBB) and one guy in early position (1,600 chips) goes all-in. I call, he shows AA and I lose.

Terrible play by me really, even if I'm a little unlucky. At some point, I should have layed down both hands. That'd be the mark of a good player.

Bang bang

I had a good day at the tables today. Although, it was marred by some outrageous bad luck at the end. I was sitting pretty with over 2,000 chips. Then KK and AQ got turned over in quick succession.

Winning!

I had my biggest ever winning day today. It included a win in a £20 STT. The prize was £100. It's the first time I've played in a £20 tourney. It was a bit looser than I'd thought. I was short stacked early on too.

In the first hand, I was dealt AQo in mid position. I called a raise of 60 chips along with one other. There was an ace on the flop. The raiser then bet 250 chips. I called. But, the other guy went all-in. The raised called, but I folded. I thought perhaps someone had flopped a set or 2 pair. As it turned out, I'd have won the hand. The raiser had pocket 10's and the other guy had A10. But there we go. Ironically, it me and the 'other guy' that fought heads-up. Justice was done as I should really have knocked him out in the first hand.

Bad run

Blimey, played 2 games this afternoon and couldn't do a thing right. The first game, it must have been 12 hands before I picked up anyhting higher than a 9. I managed to pick up a few chips by bluffing with T5o on the button. But, I eventually went out in 6th by raising with 92o on the button and running into big slick.

The second game was much the same. Picked up nothing and when I did, hit nothing on the flop. I had QQ and raised. But an ace came on the flop and I had to lay it down. I eventually went out in 6th when my AK didn't hold up against pocket 3's.

Good read, bad luck

I'd read this guy perfectly. He tried a similar trick earlier on and I folded. This time I called. Unfortunately, he got lucky on the river.

Winning an MTT

Blimey, I won an MTT tonight. Well, I finished in the top 7 which effectively is a win. The MTT was a satellite to a $100k tourney. It cost me 200 MPP's. I accrued these MPP's by playing at cash tables over the last few months.

The $100k tourney is on March 19th at 18:00, I'll have to sharpen up my skills for that :)

I thought that by playing £5 games, the players would get better. But, oh no. Some are still the same brainless fish you get at small stakes. Up until this point, I'd played very tight. Lucky fish

I hate it when fish get lucky. This particular guy had been on virtual tilt all game. In a hand earlier, he went all-in with the gutshot on the turn. And hit it.
Unbelievable. Up until this point, I had barely seen a flop. In this hand I limped in with pocket 7's and then flopped a set. I thought this would be an ideal opportunity to double up.
But, the fish got lucky and hit a straight. C'est la vie.

Bad Luck

I suppose we all get bad luck. In one game today, I got a big chip very early on. I had 5,000 chips after about 8 hands. I hung onto those chips for quite some time. But, then got 2 bad beats and went out in third.

Betfair upgrade

Seem like the new Betfair upgrade is a bit of a mess. I use Firefox on a resolution of 1900x1200. There's a whole bunch of whitespace in the middle.

Luck

I won my first STT of the day. £3 pot limit. I wouldn't say that I'm always lucky, but in this particular game, I was very lucky. Short stacked and 6 players left, I went all-in with 44 came up again 99 and hit a runner-runner straight. In another key hand, I went all-in with AK and came up against KK. Luckily an ace came up on the flop. This left as chip leader with over 5,000 chips. Plain sailing from there.

I went out of the second game with the hand below. It really baffles me how someone could call my bet. I'm sure that people don't really think about the percentages. If they did, they wouldn't do it.

Blimey, just had some bad luck in my latest £5 thunder. In one hand, I raised the pot with KK and the flop came TQK. I quickly went all-in. My caller had pocket ten's. The turn and river were 9J for a split pot. Gutted. Another big pot. 3-way action. I hold AJ to a flop of AJ7. But, get beat by the flush draw. I eventually go out with 55 against K2. My percentages to win those hands were 94%, 65% and 70%, but I lost them all.

Strange day

Strange day today, I keep losing! In the afternoon, I was unplaced and third in another. then I lost £10 in cash games. In the evening, I was unplaced in both games. The second was a travesty. I held QQ in early position and raised to 110 chips (15/8 blinds). I get 4 callers including BB. So, the pot is about 450 chips and the flop comes 332 with 2 hearts. I bet the pot and only BB calls. BB has the flush draw and hits it. I'm down to 200 chips and eventually peter out. The flush draw is a strange beast. I'm pretty sure that people don't understand the pot odds.

Calling stations

I don't really like playing against calling stations, mainly because they tend to get lucky. I really hate going out in this manner.

Had a really good day at the STT tables today. Played 10 games and won the first 3. Overall:

Frustration

Frustrating times in my first 2 games. The first, I went all-in with QQ early on. And got beat by AA. The second game was dire too. I picked up nothing for ages and then made my move with K5, only to get outdrawn. The thing that hurt the most was the fact that the other players were so bad and I lost.
